Hope Builders Construction Company is a licensed general contracting venture which partners with non‐profit, for‐profit affordable housing developers and local cities in the building and rehabilitation of affordable housing throughout Orange County. Hope Builders Construction Company is a company of Taller San Jose Hope Builders, a highly focused, goal‐oriented program that targets services at young adults, ages 18‐28, who are caught in a cycle of crime and poverty and need marketable job skills in order to become productive self‐reliant adults.

REPORTS TO: General Superintendent

SUMMARY OF MAJOR DUTIES: The Estimator is responsible for preparing detailed estimates of job costs, researching materials, and working with the General Superintendent to prepare customer contracts and other communication.


• Prepare and evaluate cost estimates

• Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects

• Prepare estimates and purchase orders in detail for all products

• Ensure timely completion of estimates

• Understand scope of work to bid Manage bid pricing from all vendors

• Prepare cost analysis • Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors


• Passion for understanding and implementing our mission

• High school diploma or GED required

• 3+ years’ experience in construction estimating

• Able to read architectural plans and develop cost estimates

• Strong understanding of residential construction processes

• Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook and Exce

• Able to multi‐task and meet strict deadlines

• Impeccable problem‐solving skills

• Highly self‐motivated with excellent time management and people skills

• A knowledge of the contracting process, such as payment terms, warranties, planning approvals and limitations of liability

• Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating skills

• Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities related to the position as requested by employer


Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit at a desk or computer for extended periods. Ability to lift at least 20 pounds. Ability to go up and down stairs throughout the day.

Mental Requirements

• Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in workload priorities, ability to prioritize tasks, ability to maintain confidentiality. Safety Requirements

• Is knowledgeable of, observes and complies with Codes of Safe Practice, safety policies and emergency procedures.


• Full‐time position. Some nights and weekends may be required.
